This Family of Four Pays Up to $8K a Month to Live Half the Year at Disney World

Ami Ciccone

Most families plan one Disney vacation every few years. The Ewing family turned it into their everyday life. Adam and Lauren Ewing, along with their two daughters, spend more than half the year living at Walt Disney World in Florida.

Their home is not a luxury suite inside Cinderella Castle. It is an RV parked at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort, surrounded by pine trees, golf carts, and the sound of fireworks nearly every night.

The family left behind a massive 10,000 square foot home outside Athens, Georgia, after the COVID-19 pandemic changed how they viewed life. What began as a road trip dream slowly became something much bigger. Instead of settling back into a traditional routine, they built a lifestyle around travel, flexibility, and Disney magic.

For the Ewings, this is not a long vacation. It is real life with school lessons, work calls, grocery runs, laundry, and bedtime routines. The difference is that Space Mountain sits just a short drive away.

Why the Ewings Chose Disney Over a Traditional Home?

Travel With Wings / IG / Adam Ewing worked in real estate development and realized he could work remotely. Lauren homeschooled their daughters and saw a chance to create a different kind of childhood.

They sold their huge property in Georgia and bought an RV instead. The original goal involved seeing the country and enjoying more time together. Then Disney World pulled them in. The couple already had a strong emotional connection to the parks because they spent their honeymoon there years earlier.

That connection grew stronger once they started staying at Fort Wilderness. The campground offered a mix of comfort and freedom that fit their lifestyle. Their daughters made friends. The family built routines. The parks became part of daily life instead of a rare escape.

The Ewings often share moments from their unusual setup through their Instagram account, @travelwiththeewings. Their posts show campfires, park visits, and simple family moments that feel far removed from the stress many families deal with at home.

Still, Adam says most days look surprisingly normal. He handles work. The girls complete school assignments. Lauren manages the household. Park visits usually happen in the evenings or when friends stop by.

The Real Cost of Living Inside the Disney Bubble

Living at Disney World sounds dreamy until the bill arrives. The family says campsite rates at Fort Wilderness can range from around $155 to $300 per night, depending on the season. During one recent spring break stay, they paid about $300 nightly. Their total for 26 days climbed past $8,000.

That price does not include theme park tickets, shopping, snacks, or restaurant meals. Costs can rise quickly inside Disney property, especially for a family spending months there every year.

The Ewings manage expenses carefully. They cook most meals inside the RV rather than eating at Disney restaurants every day. That simple decision likely saves them thousands each month. They also avoid treating every park visit like a vacation splurge.

One of the stranger challenges involves Disney’s campground policy. Guests cannot stay indefinitely. After 26 straight days, campers must leave for at least 24 hours before returning.

The Lifestyle is Built Around Memories

Travel With Wings / IG / The Ewing family knows many people see their lifestyle as unusual. Some probably think paying thousands every month to live near Disney parks sounds reckless.

Adam believes that too many people delay happiness while chasing a perfect future. Instead of waiting until retirement, he wants to enjoy life with his children while they are still young enough to share these experiences together.

That mindset pushed the family away from a giant house and toward a smaller, more flexible life. They traded square footage for experiences. They swapped backyard space for nightly fireworks over Magic Kingdom.

The family does not stay at Disney year-round. During the hotter summer months, they often travel elsewhere. They have spent time skiing in Canada and escaping to Vermont. Yet Disney keeps pulling them back.
